Cash theft from elderly woman's Rugby home

HEARTLESS thieves ransacked an 87-year-old woman's Brownsover home before stealing her money and two historic coins.

The terrifying incident happened on Friday evening at around 7.15pm when the elderly woman was sitting watching TV in the lounge of her home in Dunnerdale, Brownsover, when two masked strangers opened the door and walked in.

The two men, who were both wearing baseball caps and had black scarves tied across the lower part of their faces, did not speak but moved the sofa away from the wall and started to throw cushions from chairs onto the floor.

They also opened the drawers in the sideboard in the room and found a purse containing 80 in cash and two historic 17th century coins which they took with them when they left the house.

Neither man spoke during the burglary. They are both described as being white males, both approximately 5ft 6ins tall and were in their 20s.

A spokesman for Warwickshire Police said: "The elderly householder was not physically injured during the burglary but was shocked when the two strangers walked into her home."
