Editor's Viewpoint: Nero's heroes slip to zeroes... but!
I think Rugby Borough Council should change its perspective on the Caffe Nero situation.
Caffe Nero moved into town about 18 months ago and set up the cafe business but failed to obtain the proper permission.
OK, Nero's heroes at head office, should go to zero, for changing the use of the place from retail to cafe without seeking permission.
But what does the council want..? Here we have a thriving business - would they prefer to see a boarded up shop... a phenomenon which is becoming a little too common at the moment.
Clearly there is a place in the market for the caffe - there are others around it but still it does well. In fact a thousand people have signed a petition in the hope of keeping the business in town - that's quite a feat!
It would have been a fairly simple matter for Caffe Nero to make an application in retrospect and let it be past...

The council has had a re-think over its plan to evict a Churchover family who have been living the eco 'good life' because of their chickens.
They now say they will 'work with the family' towards an equitable resolution.
Well, not only was the story on our front page last week, it made it to two national newspapers and was featured on the Jeremy Vine radio show on Radio 2 on Tuesday lunchtime.
I wonder if that might have had something to do with that.
Isn't life grand when common sense prevails?

I was wrong!
When a pledge wall anti-knife intiative was set up I said to my colleagues no-one would ever go and write 'I pledge not to go about with a knife and possibly stab people'.
Blow me if 3,000 didn't do just that!!!
