Further appeal for witnesses to fatal crash launched
POLICE investigating the car crash which killed Rugby teenager Scott Jones have made a further appeal for witnesses.
The collision occurred just after 1am on Saturday when a red Toyota Carina which was being followed by a marked police vehicle collided with the central pillar of the viaduct at Butlers Leap.
It is believed that shortly before the collision occurred the Toyota overtook another vehicle on Boughton Road and police would like to trace the driver who may be a valuable witness.
Chief Inspector Chris Lewis of Warwickshire Police Operations Task Force said: "We do not have any details of the vehicle but I am assuming that the driver would have been aware of being overtaken by the red Toyota and may have important information which would help us determine what happened in the early hours of Saturday morning.
"I would appeal to that driver to come forward with whatever information they have, no matter how insignificant they think it may be, so that we can piece together the events which led to the fatal collision."
The driver of the Toyota was named as 18-year-old Scott Aiden Jones, of Ferndown Road, Rugby.
A 16-year-old boy who was a passenger in the vehicle is still in in the critical care unit at the University Hospital of Coventry and Warwickshire where his condition is said to be stable.
Warwickshire Police voluntarily referred the incident to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) which has since advised that it will not be conducting an investigation and it is a local matter for Warwickshire Police.
