Hospital closes wards to visitors
THE Hospital of St. Cross in Rugby has temporarily stopped all routine visiting and admissions because of an outbreak out the winter vomiting bug norovirus.
The bug has affected three wards at the hospital in the town and UHCW NHS Trust has now temporarily stopped all routine visiting and admissions to the hospital.
It said it had not taken the decision lightly.
Relatives and friends are being asked not to visit unless for compassionate reasons. Wards will take phone calls regarding patients between 2-3pm each day from next of kin.
Currently, GP referrals and 999 calls are being taken by ambulance to the University Hospital in Coventry. Excepting Ward 41, all wards at the University Hospital are open and visiting remains normal.
Ann-Marie Cannaby, chief nursing officer at UHCW NHS Trust, said: "We are lucky to have strong support from the public when it comes to washing hands and preventing infection. Patient safety must be our first priority however, and at this time we ask for patience and understanding from the general public.
"We also ask that people who can still visit the University Hospital in Coventry make sure they maintain vigilant hand hygiene by washing their hands with soap and water and using the gel provided. Anyone who is or has been ill with diarrhoea and/or vomiting, or has been in contact with someone who has, should not visit the hospital until three days have passed with no further symptoms.
"We thank everyone for their support at this time and will be providing regular updates on the situation."
