M1 crash leaves Rugby lorry driver in hospital
A RUGBY lorry driver has been seriously injured in a accident on the M1 crash.
Police are now looking for witnesses following the crash on the M1 last night (Tuesday).
The accident happend at around 11.10pm on the southbound carriageway half a mile south of junction 17 near Watford Gap.
The collision involved three articulated lorries - a red Scania driven by a 41-year-old man from Rugby, an orange Mercedes, driven by a 45-year-old man from Rushden and a blue Foden, driven by a 69-year-old man from Nottingham.
The three lorries ran into each other resulting in the Rugby driver of the Scania being trapped in the vehicle for more than two hours and sustaining serious injuries.
He was taken to University Hospital in Coventry where he is receiving treatment.
The driver of the Mercedes was taken to Northampton General Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
The motorway was closed but re-opened at around 7am this morning (Wednesday).
It was the second time this week that the M1 was badly affected by a crash. On Monday part of the motorway was shut around junction 17 causing miles of tailbacks, after a lorry overturned.
Police would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed Tuesday's incident or who may have any information regarding it.
