Man assaulted during early hours robbery

A MAN was knocked unconscious and suffered a fractured cheekbone after being robbed in a vicious early hours attack.

The incident happened on the corner of Bruce Williams Way - the road leading to the Ken Marriott Leisure Centre, and Hillmorton Road, in Rugby at 3.50am on Sunday.

It's believed to have started when two men intervened in an argument among five men at the Clock Towers in Rugby town centre.

They then started chatting to them. Three of the men are believed to have taken exception to this and chased the two men along Clifton Road, onto Whitehall Road and into the school playing fields of Lawrence Sheriff School.

While in the school grounds a white man wearing a black jacket is believed to have threatened both men saying he had a knife and demanded their wallets and mobile phones.

The two men ran to the junction of Hillmorton Road and Bruce Williams Way, where the man threatened one of them again, causing him to throw his property to the floor.

The offender then assaulted him by punching and kicking him to the floor.

He stole his Samsung mobile phone from the floor and ran off towards Ken Marriott Leisure Centre.

While he was on the floor, a second man ran up and also kicked the man on the floor before also running off towards the Ken Marriott.

The victim who was knocked unconscious during the assault, sufferering a fractured cheekbone and cuts and bruises.

He was taken to Coventry University Hospital to be checked over.

Police officers are particularly keen to speak to a man and a woman who were walking from Clifton Road and along Whitehall Road at around the time the incident occurred.
