Robbers raid village shop

ARMED robbers have stolen money during a raid on a village shop.

Police are now appealing for witnesses after a robbery at the Co-op in Church Road, Long Itchington at around 7.40am this morning (Monday).

The robbery occurred when two men wearing motorbike crash helmets entered the Co-op carrying a metal kosh and demanded money from a member of staff.

One customer was in the store at the time of the robbery.

The men stole a small amount of cash from a safe and two tills and left the area on a red and white or possibly a red and black motorcycle in an unknown direction.

No-one was injured.

DS 271 Andy Smith said "This robbery occurred at a time when many people were driving to work or walking their dogs and we are keen to hear from anyone who saw two people on a motorbike in the area or anyone they believe may have been acting suspiciously."

The two men are believed to have been sat on what is described as a 'low powered motorbike' at the end of Church Road for some 15 minutes prior to the robbery.

One of the men is described as wearing a red helmet and the other a black helmet.

Witnesses also describe one of the men as wearing a long sleeved grey hooded top, dark blue adidas tracksuit bottoms and pristine white trainers.

They are both described as slight to medium build, approximately 5'8" tall and believed to be in their late teens to early 20's

Officers are checking CCTV footage and carrying out house to house enquiries today.

Any witnesses are please asked to contact DS Andy Smith in Leamington CID on (01926) 684110 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
