People in Rugby are invited to dust off their running shoes and head to the track at Queen’s Diamond Jubilee leisure centre for a morning of festive fun.

This year’s Santa Run event is being held on Sunday, December 14 and has two races.

At 10am, there’s the one mile off-road Santa Dash for ages 7-14 and at 10.15am the 5k Santa Run starts.

The route takes Santas up Pytchley Road, Percival Road, Ashlawn Road, Barby Road, and back.

It is being held by Rugby Athletics Club and the Rotary Club of Rugby in aid of local charities and good causes.

Local businesses, schools and organisations are invited to battle it out for the Santa Run Cup.

Janet Wright, coaching coordinator at Rugby and Northampton Athletics Club said: “Joining in with this festive event you will also be helping local good causes.”

There is no limit to the amount of runners in a team with the top three runners scoring for the team prize.

The competition has awards for the top overall team and top overall school.

Santa suits and finished medals are included in entry fee – Santa Run £10 and Santa Dash £6.

To encourage younger runners, two free places in the Santa Dash are being offered to all primary schools.
