A fire which engulfed a row of four derelict houses in Rugby this Sunday (December 3) is believed to have been started deliberately, Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service has said.

Fire crews received several calls just after 3pm alerting them to the fire near the old Imperial Hotel in Oxford Street.

The two fire engines that attended found the row of terraced houses completely ablaze, and crews had to withdraw from the buildings themselves because of fears the ceilings might collapse.

The fire was eventually put out in the evening.
