Crews were called to a fire at an elderly person’s flat and feared the owner was trapped inside.

Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service received a call to smoke issuing from a flat in Albert Square, Rugby, at 4.45pm yesterday.

There was the possibility that the occupier may still have been inside the property.

Three fire engines were sent to the scene, two from Rugby and one from Southam.

A fire was discovered in a third floor flat.

Fire fighters used two breathing apparatus, one hose reel and a covering main jet to extinguish the fire.

All persons were accounted for.

Police and ambulance crews were also in attendance.
