THIS is what Rugby’s new multi-million-pound leisure centre will look like when it opens in two years’ time.
The design of the taxpayer-funded facility, revealed this week, includes a gym twice the size of the one at the Ken Marriott, an eight-lane swimming pool, a climbing wall and extra space for classes.
Rugby Borough Council made the announcement after cutting its budget by hundreds of thousands of pounds and making dozens of staff redundant earlier this year. But a spokesman insisted spending millions on a new centre is a good use of public money.
He said: “The alternative was not to have a leisure centre at all. The Ken Marriott is at the end of its life - it would have cost nearly as much to
refurbish as building a new centre.”
