A free family event at Rugby’s new Viaduct Cycleway takes place next week when the Pedal On UK tour passes through the town.

Pedal On Rugby takes place on the Leicester Road viaduct between 12.15pm and 1.15pm on Thursday August 29.

The event has been organised to celebrate the Pedal On UK tour, organised by Sustrans.

The sustainable transport charity has recruited a team of 20 volunteers to cycle from London to Glasgow, travelling on the latest additions to Sustrans’ National Cycle Network.

The £1.2 million Viaduct Cycleway joined the network in July when it was officially opened by the Mayor of Rugby, Cllr Anthony Gillias.

Families have been invited to bring a picnic and welcome the Pedal On UK tour when it passes through the town on Thursday, 29 August . Pedal On Rugby includes a Fresh Air Mile ride or walk, live music and the chance to ‘bling’ your bike.

Cllr Gillias urged residents to join in the fun at Pedal On Rugby and cheer on the volunteer riders.

“Pedal On Rugby promises to be a fun event and a great chance to try out the new Viaduct Cycleway,” Cllr Gillias said.

“I’m sure the volunteers cycling from London to Glasgow would also welcome all the support we can give.”
