This summer Clifton Tennis Club will be offering free taster tennis lessons for anyone over 50.
Funded by Rugby Borough Council and Sport England, the sessions aim to encourage over 50s to get active and try out tennis for the first time.
Rackets, balls and a fully qualified coach will be on hand to teach those taking part the tennis basics.
It’s hoped that after six free one hour sessions trainees will get the tennis bug and take up the sport – and an active lifestyle – permanently.
The sessions will be taking place at Clifton Tennis Club, Playing fields, Clifton, on Friday afternoons from May 10.
Clifton Tennis Club secretary Adam Woolf said: “By offering these sessions we hope to encourage older members of the community to get active and try out tennis. It’s a great fun. It’s very sociable, and it helps you keep fit and active.
“If you have always fancied a go at tennis but have never had a go, or if you played a bit when you were younger but haven’t got round to playing again, here is your chance. These sessions are completely free. Everything will be provided. All you need to do is book in advance, and then turn up.”
Only 18 places are available this summer, so anyone interested is urged to contact the club immediately. Sessions will start on Friday May 10.
This summer Clifton Tennis Club will also be running its well established junior coaching programme. Sessions are split into different age groups from 4 year olds through to 16 years olds. Adult coaching sessions will also be held. All coaching will be taking place on Friday after school and in the early evening.
Training sessions will start on Friday May 10. Places are limited so please contact the club if you are interested.
