Gang carrying long knives assault man in St George’s Avenue

Police are looking for witnesses to a serious assault in Rugby last night (Thursday).

The assault, in St George’s Avenue, Rugby, is believed to have occurred after a man and his girlfriend arrived by car in the avenue and the male was assaulted from behind by two males wearing dark clothing and carrying long knives.

The man was treated by paramedics for a cut to the back of his head and chin requiring stitching.

Police used a dog team to trace the route the offenders took towards Overslade Lane and Saunton Road.

A 19 year old man was later detained for questioning by police and released on conditional bail pending further enquiries.

Police patrols have been increased in the area folowing the attack last night (Thursday) at 11.30pm.
