Get fun-filled taste of Japan
A TASTE of the Orient can be sampled by families at an innovative and exciting event in Rugby this weekend.
Rugby Art Gallery and Museum in Little Elborow Street is hosting Taste Japan on Saturday from 10am-4pm.
It will feature a range of unique fun-filled activities - some of which are free - and others will cost a small admission fee.
A spokesperson for the gallery said: "Visitors can enjoy a fun taste of all things Japanese including sushi tasting, mask making, origami and the opportunity to try on a summer kimono.
"Guests can also make origami or watch the experienced origami expert Robin Macey create fabulous folded works of art."
Sushi Making will be on from noon to 3pm, where an experienced sushi chef will create different styles of the famous Japanese dish. The sushi will also be available to try too.
Youngsters will be able to make their own Japanese masks in three sessions during the day.
The sessions, which run from 10am to 11.15am, 11.45am and 1pm and from 2pm to 3.15pm are suitable for eight to 14-year-olds and cost 3.50. Booking for the mask making event is essential – call (01788) 533777.
There will also be free badge-making sessions for children which will run between 10am- noon and 1pm-4pm.
Councillor Neil Campbell, Rugby Borough Council portfolio holder for culture, said: "This should be a very enjoyable day. There is a wide range of fascinating activities going on – it's a good opportunity for a great family day out."
Running alongside this in the art gallery until 26 August is 'out of the ordinary/extraordinary: Japanese contemporary photography', another free exhibition displaying the work of 11 photographers with their own take on modern Japan.
