If you went over to Brownsover this afternoon (Thursday) you may have spotted some blood-drenched zombies wandering the streets.

But don’t worry, there’s no need to put your post-apocalyptic plans into action just yet! The ‘zombies’ in question are extras, filming scenes for a feature movie.

Residents had to clear the street to allow two tanks to pass by.

The film - titled Redcon-1 - is an Apocalypse Pictures Ltd production and the scenes filmed on Copelands in Brownsover focus on a team of special forces officers who are sent in to fight the undead.

Large crowds watched as two army tanks rolled down the usually quiet residential road.

The production crew also shot scenes in Dunchurch and on Murray Road in the town centre earlier this week.

And lots of locals have been getting involved by turning out to volunteer as extras, including Meredith Whiting from Ryton-on-Dunsmore (pictured above). She said: “We were in Dunchurch earlier today filming from about 1pm.

“It’s really hot and I’ve been covered in blood all day. It’s been fun but I can’t wait to get changed!”

Louise Miller lives on Copelands and her two young boys, Brandon Taylor and Curtis Taylor, also got involved as zombie extras (pictured). She told the Advertiser that residents weren’t given much notice of the filming that took place on their street this afternoon.

She said: “We only found out yesterday (Wednesday) when we got a letter through our door. But it’s fine to be honest - the kids all think it’s pretty cool!”

The crew will be filming more scenes tomorrow on Borrowdale in Brownsover between 9am and 2pm. Residents from Rugby are welcome to go along and watch or volunteer as extras.
