A TEAM of spirited snow wardens have been giving up their time this week to help clear footpaths to help keep Rugbeians on the move.
While Warwickshire County Council grits 46 per cent of the county’s 2,368 miles of highway (used by 90 per cent of traffic), the authority cannot grit every road and footway – which is why it has a snow warden scheme.
A recent appeal by former councillor Bill Lewis produced eight wardens in Rugby. Mr Lewis said: “It has been heartening to see the enthusiasm shown by the wardens, who have been working in extremely cold conditions and joined by their neighbours who have been coming out to help. It’s a very rewarding community activity, particularly when passers by wave and shout their thanks.”
