EMMERDALE actors will be joined by inspirational Rugby cyclist James Golding as they cycle from the Yorkshire Dales to Albert Square to raise £100,000 for charity.
At 6pm tomorrow (Friday) Team Emmerdale will leave the Woolpack in Emmerdale, just north of Leeds, and set off on a 224-mile bike ride down the country to the Queen Victoria on the set of Eastenders just outside London.
They aim to complete the endurance challenge in just 24 hours and hope to raise £100,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
James Golding from Rugby, who is the Macmillan Cycle Challenge Ambassador at Macmillan, will be joining the soap stars on the ride, as well as a big support team. Cyclists include Tom Lister (Carl King), Kevin Fletcher (Andy Sugden), James Thornton (John Barton), Rik Mackarem (Nikhil Sharma) and executive producer Steve November.
James, who is battling cancer for a second time and is due to have an operation to remove a tumour next month, said: “I feel fitter than I ever had done before. I’m hoping to be back on my bike as soon I can after the operation.”
The Emmerdale actors decided to take on the challenge after their series producer Gavin Blyth lost his fight with cancer and died suddenly last year.
Rik said: “James Golding is the definition of courage through adversity.
“He has inspired me deeply on a human level and for Team Emmerdale brought greater purpose and conviction to our dream of helping this cause.
“It’s an honour to ride alongside him and I feel blessed our paths crossed.”
As they travel through the Midlands, James and Team Emmerdale will pass through Market Harborough, Pitsford Reservoir, Wellingborough and Northampton.
