CLOWNS, genies and free biscuits and cakes marked the first anniversary celebrations of a Rugby charity shop.

Global Care in Rugby’s High Street marked its first year in business on Saturday with a day filled with fun.

While staff dressed up in fancy dress to attract the youngsters, passers-by and shoppers were given free cakes and biscuits.

Shop manager Maxine Williams said: “It went really well. We got a good response and we had a good turnout. We dressed up in fancy dress to make people realise that we are a children’s charity.”

Global Care is an international Christian children’s charity, with charity status in countries which helps give youngsters a better life all over the world.

Maxine said: “Like a lot of other charity shops, we are struggling at the moment. We’ve got enough volunteers to help out in the shop but we could do with a lot more donations.

Stock is running low.”
