THE Highways Agency will begin resurfacing works on the M1 northbound between junction 18 and 19 to the east of Rugby later this month.

The work is expected to start on Monday, February 27 and finish on March 15, weather conditions depending. All work will take place overnight to minimise disruption to road users.

The work involves resurfacing sections of carriageway and then replacing road markers, road studs and traffic detection loops.

During the works there will be some lane closures and a 50mph speed restrictions. The northbound slip road at Junction 18 will also be closed. Diversion routes will be clearly signposted.

Highways Agency project manager Mark Braithwaite said: “This is important, if routine, maintenance to ensure users of the strategic road network in this part of the region can continue to enjoy safe smooth and reliable journeys. The work is essential to maintain the carriageway in a good condition and prevent the need for unplanned closures for emergency repairs in the future.

“We will endeavor to complete this necessary work as quickly and efficiently as possible, and we are carrying it out overnight to reduce the impact on motorists.”
