A SERVICE for 200 took place at St John the Baptist Church in Hillmorton to welcome the new priest in charge.

The Rev Margaret Simmons has taken over from the Rev Andrew Haines, who retired last month after 20 years.

“Thank you very much to everyone who made last Thursday evening’s Licensing service so special,” said Mrs Simmons.

“It was an inspirational start to our new chapter for St John the Baptist in Hillmorton. It was quite emotional and I was thrilled with how it went.”

“We are now looking forward to the next new chapter in the life of our church and community.”

Mrs Simmons, a former nurse, has lived in Rugby for 16 years.

She is married to David, who is retired, and they have two grown-up children, Heather and Michael.

“I hope we can build on what the church already has,” said Mrs Simmons.

“I hope we can grow in all sorts of ways - in a deeper love for God, in numbers and our outreach to the community.”

Mrs Simmons enjoys walking, cooking and entertaining.

“David had got a lot of his own interests,” she said. “We make a good team.”
