RUGBY’S new Mayor has been given the chains at the town hall.
Cllr Gwen Hotten officially took over as the Mayor of Rugby from Cllr Don Williams at a ceremony at the town hall on Thursday last week.
Cllr Hotten, who lives in Benn Street, grew up in Hull and moved to Rugby in 1980, and has taken an interest in local issues and politics since then.
She married husband Jim in 2000 and has two children, Simon and Helen, as well as two grandchildren.
Cllr Hotten said she is looking forward to visiting the many voluntary groups in Rugby and her main theme for the year will be to “consider fairness”.
She added: “I consider it to be a huge honour to be elected as mayor of Rugby and am looking forward to the coming year enormously.”
Cllr Hotten will be supporting two charities - New Directions Rugby and Rugby Young Carers.
