A man who died at the Cemex plant in Rugby was the victim of a tragic accident, an inquest has head.

The three-day jury inquest into the death of Scunthorpe John Altoft finished at Coventry Crown Court on Friday.

He lost his life after he fell from scaffholding at the Lawford Road plant in the early hours of January 18.

Ian Southcott, UK Community Affairs Manager at Cemex, said: “It was a devastating event for his family, friends, colleagues and all those employees and contractors working at the Rugby cement plant. The company has worked closely with the authorities during the intervening period and this week’s inquest has been part of the process of trying to understand how this tragic event occurred.”

He said Cemex will now reflect upon the verdict of the jury and the comments of assistant deputy coroner Tom Leeper.
