A NEWTON couple who have helped raise thousands of pounds for charity say it’s as easy as putting the kettle on.
Now Rachel and Ray Millward are urging others to take part in the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning for Macmillan Cancer Support.
The fundraisers have supported the charity for ten years, raising £750 at their last event.
Rachel said: “We hold it in the evening as we were both working full-time when we started.
“Our events would not be possible without our willing band of helpers who man the bring and buy stall, sell raffle tickets and donate prizes and help to make the coffee, and of course our friends who support the event.”
They keep the event simple - just coffee and biscuits - but say people love to come and chat.
“It’s worth remembering to put out a Gift Aid sheet, that way MacMillan are able to claim back tax, so the money we make is worth even more,” added Rachel.
“We really enjoy hosting the event and, of course, raising money for this very worthwhile cause,” added Ray.
In 2010 there were 98 Macmillan coffee mornings held across the Rugby area raising a £14,417.
Karen Shortt, Macmillan’s fundraising manager for Warwickshire, said: “We are very grateful to Rachel and Ray for all their fantastic support and I hope they inspire other people to hold a coffee morning.
“All that matters is that you take part and help us raise more from this year’s coffee morning than ever before. “
This year’s event is on Friday September 30. Visit www. macmillan.org.uk/coffee or phone 0845 602 1246.
