RUGBY’S iconic Griffin pub is undergoing a £200,000 refurbishment after being taken over by new owners.

The pub, on Kingsway, is set to be opened by Rugby FM DJ Jason Moss on the evening of Friday June 1 at a charity grand opening in aid of Help for Heroes.

New landlord Jamie Slater, who has bought the pub with his wife, Anna, took the plunge after successfully running the Green Man in Dunchurch pub’s kitchen for the past two years.

Jamie said: “Our food was really popular in Dunchurch which is why we’re now looking to expand and provide the same quality on a larger scale.

“We’re looking to use our expertise in the kitchen to draw more people into the Griffin and restore it’s reputation as one of the best eating and drinking venues in Rugby.

“We want to turn it into a friendly venue that everyone nearby can be proud of.”

For the opening day on June 1, which is open to everyone,

Presenter Jason Moss will be opening the pub at 6pm and guests will be able to take advantage of a free buffet, face painting and other children’s activities.
