RUGBY Theatre conjures up all the glitzy glamour of the French Riviera for its summer Broadway blockbuster musical, La Cage aux Folles.
The show will run from Saturday June 16 to Saturday June 23 and is set in a St Tropez cabaret revue bar where, as the photo above suggests, not all the showgirls here are what they might at first seem. The club’s owner George gets a shock when the son he has raised with long-term partner Albin suddenly announces his engagement. But his girlfriends’ parents are straight-laced puritan types.
The son persuades his family to conceal their association with the rather bawdy nightclub next door. Hilarious farce unfolds as the pretence unravels, with plenty of love and laughs, tears and songs along the way. The joy is all held together with fine music by one of Broadway’s leading composers, Jerry Herman, who wrote the well-loved shows Hello Dolly, Mame and Mack & Mabel among many others.
Performances are nightly at 7.30pm. For tickets, call the box office on (01788) 541234.
