Laughs backstage in Dunchurch
AUDIENCES at Dunchurch Village Hall will see Andrew Cullum and Oliver Hume become ‘The Panto Girls’.
The comedy is set backstage in a provincial theatre during pantomime season and promises laughs, surprises and some darker moments too.
Andrew, writer of The Panto Girls, said: “Thanks to some brilliant direction from Marcus Fernando, the play has become even funnier than the one I was hearing in my head as I was writing it.”
Andrew and Oliver have just finished a successful run of Robin Hood in Solihull over the Christmas period but their partnership goes back to when they were both working together as the Ugly Sisters in Cinderella two years ago.
Andrew said: “We work well together as a comic duo and I thought the idea of two very different men preparing to go on stage in these ridiculous costumes could make an interesting play in its own right.”
It’s not just pantomimes that the pair have performed in. Between them they’ve played Macbeth and Fagin in the musical Oliver! as well as appearances in several other productions. Oliver said: “I’ve enjoyed every role that I’ve played, it’s the variety of the job that makes it so enjoyable.
“The Panto Girls is a chance to take a look at what most people don’t see, the backstage dressing room aspect of pantomime season. Many people may be in for a surprise.”
The Panto Girls is being performed at Dunchurch Village Hall on Saturday, February 11 at 7.30pm.
Tickets are available from Wanda’s Fashions on (01788) 522021.
