RUGBY golfer Lauren Taylor is preparing for one of the biggest nights of her life after being selected as one of the top three finalists for the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year 2011 title.
Lauren, 17, was named this week as one of the three contenders for the top award, alongside cyclist Lucy Garner and paralympic swimmer Eleanor Simmonds.
Lauren, of Crick Road, Hillmorton, said: “I was so happy when I found out. I couldn’t believe it. I didn’t think I would get into the top three.”
The three girls have been whittled down from an original shortlist of ten.
John Inverdale, chairman of the judging panel, said: “It was the strongest field we’ve ever had for this award - it was an extremely tough decision to shorten the list down to three.”
Lauren, who won the 2011 Ladies’ British Open Amatuer Championship, is looking forward to attending the ceremony in Salford Quays on Thursday, December 22 where the winner will be announced.
The live show will be presented by Sue Barker, Gary Lineker and Jake Humphrey.
