A TOTAL of six grants up to the value of £1000 are to be allocated to community organisations in Rugby to help them create an Olympic legacy.

The 2012 London Olympics are now just months away and Rugby Borough Council wants to encourage more people in the community to be inspired by the games. The summer of 2012 will see a spectacular display of sport and culture both in London and locally with the Olympic Torch visiting Rugby and Dunchurch on 2 July.

Many community organisations within Rugby would love to be even more involved in the London Olympic and Paralympic events and one way to do that is by putting on a local games. Organising and running an event which is inspired by London 2012 brings the games to our doorstep.

Rugby Borough Council’s Community Legacy Grant is a funding stream aimed at helping community organisations from around the borough develop and sustain an annual event for people of all ages. The funding will be provided to successful applicants whose proposal embraces the spirit of the Olympic Games and delivers a community event between April and September 2012. The grant can be used to enhance an existing event or set up a new one.

Applications open on Monday 9 January and must be returned by 5pm on Friday 17 February.

Application packs and more information are available from Vicky Norman, Rugby Borough Council Play Development Officer, on (01788) 533655 or victoria.norman@rugby.gov.uk.
