BARBY centenarian Hester McClintoch proved you are never too old to hitch a ride as part of her 100th birthday celebrations.
She was guest of honour at a party held in Barby Village hall on Saturday.
As a surprise part of her day, the Kilsby MG Car Club and others assembled a parade of sports cars which took her and some of her family on a tour of Barby and Kilsby, before delivering her safely back in the village.
Hester travelled in a classic MG two-seater sports car driven and owned by Terry Baulch of the Kilsby Club.
She was followed by ten other sports cars.
Hester, who celebrated her centenary last month, had fun and was happy to hitch a ride.
The 100-year-old, who is described by her friends as a real character, lives in Barby with her daughter Charlotte, who is married to the Rev Peter Beresford. She also has two other children, Mary and John, as well as seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
After losing her husband John in 1955 she raised her three children while always pursuing an interest in art, mainly as a teacher.
She said: “You can enjoy good food or a drink but it’s important to know when you need to stop.”
