A RUGBY woman who is 50 on Christmas Day is making one of her wishes come true by helping others.

Lila Stepien will be making December 25 a brighter day for those who are less fortunate or alone.

She is one of the many volunteers behind a Christmas party the Benn Partnership Centre.

Joined by her parents Pat Webb and Dennis Patel, the family will help cook and serve up a tasty Christmas dinner.

It’s something Lila has wanted to do for a long time.

She said: “I will be 50 on Christmas Day and something that I have always wanted to do.

“I already assist with the soup kitchen at St Andrew’s church and so thought it was a great opportunity.”

The family will also provide entertainment for people attending the centre, in Railway Terrace. “My son is helping us too,” added Lila.

“It is for a combination of the elderly, homeless, and people who have no family or would have otherwise spent Christmas alone.”

Volunteers at the Benn Partnership Centre also provide lifts to and from the event.

Lila added: “I cannot think of a nicer way of celebrating.”

Anybody who would like to make a donation to the festivities, which are provided free, can telephone the centre on (01788) 553033.
