The Rugby Advertiser Stamp Appeal has now generated more than 350,000 stamps .
The stamp appeal is continuing to go from strength to strength as we hit the 350,000 milestone.
Since the launch of the appeal in December 2011 thousands of stamps have poured through the doors of the Advertiser office.
From a single first class stamp to bin bags full of rare and collectable stamps and boxes of albums - the generosity of Rugby people has been astonishing.
Every single stamp that we have received has been passed on to volunteers at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Rugby.
Some have needed cropping before being passed on to charity.
Cropping involves cutting around the edge of each stamp, leaving about a quarter of an inch of the envelope in place.
In a typical evening volunteers can trim about 2,000 stamps. Volunteers estimate they have trimmed around 35,000 stamps since the project began.
Volunteer Chris Withington said: “It’s amazing how such little effort on our part can make such a difference to the lives of others.”
The processing of the stamps also involves separating them into UK and overseas and then counting and bagging into bags of 500.
Des Waddington, project coordinator for the church, said: “The latest batch of 50,000 stamps has been donated to Oxfam in Rugby. Although used stamps can be thought of as having little or no value, by the time that they have been processed and sold in Oxfam shops, quite a lot of money can be raised for the charity and that money helps to bring relief to less fortunate people.
“The money raised by this stamp donation will probably be sufficient to provide medicines for an African village for a whole year.”
