Beer aplenty flowing in Rugby and Stockton

Organisers of this year's Rugby Beer Festival prepare for the event

Organisers of this year's Rugby Beer Festival prepare for the event

Ale drinkers will be spoiled for choice this weekend with two beer festivals – one in Rugby and the other in Stockton.

The Rugby Camra beer festival will have a choice of more than 50 ales from across the country, with an emphasis on locally-brewed beers and those from the south-west.

Steve Heighton, of Rugby Camra, said: “We have some fantastic beers. We are supporting the breweries from the earlier flooded south-west region, and have over 15 great local beers and at least one ale brewed specially for the festival”

The festival also showcases real ciders and perries, as well as little-known international beers.

It will be staged at Thornfield Bowls Club and today (Friday) at 2pm, running until 11pm, and on Saturday from 11am until 11pm.

There will be live music on Saturday evening and football fans can also enjoy World Cup matches on TV in the bar.

Stockton’s three-day beer festival also starts today (Friday) and is centred on the Nelson Club, Crown Inn and Barley Mow.

Now in its second year, organisers hope to attract not only real ale and cider enthusiasts, but also those hoping to enjoy food and a relaxed family-friendly day out with camping facilities.

Venues will stage live entertainment and music at different times, including local band V8, the Jack Band, the Crazy 88s, Dave Pepper, Rochelle Frost, Bisiker and the aptly named Official Beer Tasters.
