A Bilton woman has launched a fundraising drive in honour of her mother who is fighting cancer.

Paula Dew is having her hair shaved off to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The brave stunt will take place at an action packed family fun day being held at The Bear in Bilton on Saturday, February 22, from 11am.

Paula, who lives in Larch Close, said: “My mam Irene is 68 years old and was diagnosed as having lung cancer with brain metastases on December 11 last year.

“She is a fantastic, wonderful, amazing, strong, positive, awesome human being and I want to support her in every way that I can – she has always been my rock for me through the years and now it’s my turn to help her.”

Paula said fundraising is helping her keep positive.

“I wanted to give something back to Macmillan as they’re supporting her and my family in Newcastle,” she added,

“It makes me feel useful as I’m so far away from her.”

The fundraiser includes fun and games for the whole family.

“I hope to see lots of people there on the day,” said Paula.

“Macmillan Cancer Nurses do fantastic work and I want to show my mam support and give something back to Macmillan for providing the wonderful help they give to all affected.”
