It’s not exactly the most traditionally festive setting, but one young Braunston sailor is looking forward to Christmas aboad a ship in the Gulf.

Sub Lieutenant Tristan Bell - known as “Dinger” - is a weapons engineer aboard HMS Montrose. The frigate is carrying out what the Royal Navy describes as “maritime security operations” on the body of water, which 4,000 miles from home.

But although his thoughts are with his parents Sheila and Christian, his wider family and his friends, life at sea is proving enjoyable.

The 22 year old, who went to Lawrence Sheriff School, said: “It has been frenetically busy, but good fun with a top notch team to work with and a rugby team to match.”

“As Christmas is now just around the corner I would like to wish a Happy Christmas to all my friends and family in Rugby and Braunston and look forward to seeing you all in the New Year.”
