A Rugby businessman who was once well known around town has died.

Thomas Collier died on January 10 aged 94.

In 1939 Tom volunteered for the Royal Army Service Corp and from 1947 until his retirement in 1984, he ran a hardware store and mobile shop with his wife Jean.

Tom was secretary and standard bearer for the Royal British Legion number two branch where he visited elderly and disabled members in hospitals as part of his role until the Castle Street branch was disbanded. He then became an honorary member of the Hillmorton branch.

For a number of years he ran the senior citizens Wednesday afternoon meeting.

Tom’s funeral will be held on January 31 with a service at St John the Baptist Church, cremation in Canley and a celebration of his life at Hillmorton Ex Servicemen’s Club.
