A POLICE crackdown on theft during the Christmas period has proved a success.
Throughout December Rugby Town Centre Safer Neighbourhood Team - assisted by Rugby First CCTV, rangers and security staff - carried out an operation to reduce the number of thefts from people.
Officers in plain clothes carried out patrols as well as high visibility patrols, targeting known offenders and locations along with giving out security advice and purse bells.
In total during the month there were just two offences of theft from a person and one offence of attempted theft.
This compares with December 2011 when there were nine offences of theft from a person.
During the operation three people were arrested for theft from a person.
Further arrests also included a man for being drunk and disorderly and another man for carrying an eight inch bladed kitchen knife.
A total of 11 people were caught for shoplifting.
