The benefits of swimming have become available to more people in Rugby with the opening of a new pool.

Although it’s sited at Bilton School in Lawford Lane, it is available to everyone from 6pm to 8pm each weekday and from 9am to 6pm at weekends.

It has been provided as part of the British Gas Pools 4 Schools programme, which provides temporary pools, supported by Lancashire firm Total Swimming and sponsored by the Amateur Swimming Association.

The programme aims to get more schoolchildren swimming in towns and cities across England.

Pool coordinator Mandy Jesson said: “The pool is open to the wider community to provide more opportunities for local people of all ages to enjoy aquatic activities, such as swimming lessons.”

Children aged between five and 11 can attend swimming lessons from 4pm to 6pm Monda to Friday.

Intensive ‘crash courses’ for children are available next week and from April 14 to 18.

There will be a special celebration day at the pool on March 4, featuring Olympic athlete Adam Whitehead, who is from Coventry, and is a former European and Commonwealth Champion.
