A £1 coin was given to 140 year 7-10 students at the Academy’s York House.

They were asked to use their imagination, enthusiasm and entrepreneurial skills to make the money grow for the Coventry-based hospice.

Many of the pupils took on baking challenges, making cakes and selling them to friends and family, others washed the family car for a donation and baby-sitting duties helped to increase the funds. Sponsorship challenges included cycling five times around Draycote Water, swimming and even keeping quiet.

Head of house William Glendon-Doyle said: “Giving the pupils the opportunity to show their enthusiasm and turn the £1 into more really seemed to inspire them.

“I also took part. I took on chores like washing my own car, ironing, cooking and housework, making a donation and asking friends to sponsor me”.

The total of £1,524 was handed over last week.
