Thousands of cigarettes valued in excess of £30,000 have been stolen during a series of rooftop burglaries.

Commercial premises in Rugby, Bedworth and Exhall have all been targeted by thieves who have taken cigarettes.

In each case the burglars have managed to enter the petrol station store, or express store through the roof, giving them direct access to the cigarette cabinets inside the buildings.

Due to the similar method of entry to each premises police believe the incidents are linked.

Overnight between 11.15pm on Tuesday January 28 and 5.15am on Wednesday January 29 burglars climbed on the roof of the Shell garage in Hillmorton Road, Rugby, and managed to gain access to the cigarette cabinet inside the premises below and stolen cigarettes worth £8000.

Other garages and a supermarket were targeted in Bedworth and Exhall, taking more than £30,000 worth of cigarettes in total.

A spokesman for Warwickshire Police said: “Police would like to hear from anyone who was in the vicinity of any of these premises around the relevant times and who saw anything unusual or suspicious, or who saw anyone acting suspiciously in the days before hand.

“They would also like to hear from anyone who knows of anyone selling packets of cigarettes at cut prices.”

Anyone with any information which may of assistance to police who are investigating this series of burglaries is asked to contact Temporary Detective Constable Steve Flavell in Nuneaton CID by dialling Warwickshire Police on 101. Or they can give the information anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 or via www.Crimestoppers.org.
