A decision to change Rugby’s bowling alley into a Matalan has been put on hold.

Rugby Borough Council’s planning committee met last night (Wednesday) to discuss the plans to convert Rugby Superbowl into a shop at the Junction One Retail Park.

Developers Indigo Planning want to change the use of the bowling alley from leisure to retail use.

The proposals include alterations to the building to accommodate high street retailer Matalan.

Planning officers had recommended the application be refused as it would have a ‘significant adverse impact’ on the town centre.

However councillors decided to defer the application on advice from officers after last minute alterations to the plans which means the overall floor space is below 2,500 sq metres.

The changes mean that the impact on the town centre no longer have to be taken into account.

Councillors will discuss the plans again at a future meeting.
