A family fun day will be held at Whitehall Rec on Saturday (August 30) in memory of a popular Hillmorton teenager who passed away earlier this year after battling leukaemia.
Joel Smith’s family have organised Party in the Park Reloaded to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust.
X-Factor favourites Kingsland Road have agreed to play at the fun day.
Kingsland’s Joe ‘Connor’ Conaboy and Joel both went to Bilton School.
Connor said: “We were saddened when we heard that Joel had lost his battle with leukaemia.
“As soon as we were asked to perform in his memory we jumped at the opportunity.
“He was such a brave lad and he will be remembered for all the good he has done.
“To be able to perform means a lot to us.”
Joel’s aunt, Hayley Hammond, started arranging the event with Joel before he tragically lost his battle with the disease aged 15.
She said: “We are all so excited to have Kingsland Road playing at the event.
“Joel met them while he was in hospital and they were brilliant.
“They will be doing a few acoustic songs and then a signing for fans.”
The event starts at 11.30am.
Hayley said: “We managed to raise £3,200 for the Teenage Cancer Trust at the last event.
“I’m hoping we can raise more this year in memory of Joel. He was a great lad who fought bravely and with humour until the end.”
Attractions will include fun fair rides, bands, performances, exhibitions, a beer tent from Wood Farm Brewery, demonstrations, music and stalls.
