A Long Lawford couple who got married at the place where they first met are celebrating 60 years of happy marriage today (Thursday).
Roy and Brenda Bennett got married on March 27 1954 at St John’s church in Long Lawford.
Mr and Mrs Bennett met at the dance hall in Long Lawford, when they were 17 and 20 years old.
Mr Bennett, who lived in Stretton on Dunsmore, would travel to the village to socialise, where Mrs Bennett had lived all her life.
The couple were together for five years before tying the knot.
Mr and Mrs Bennett got married at the former dance hall where they met which had later become St John’s church in the village.
They moved in to Mrs Bennett’s family home after they got married, before buying their current house in Holbrook Road, Long Lawford.
The couple have two children - Maxine and Graham.
They also have four grandsons and a step grandson.
Mr Bennett worked at Rootes in Ryton on Dunsmore, while Mrs Bennett worked at Candy Stores, Bluemels and then Relate in Rugby.
The couple play bingo, while Mr Bennett enjoys gardening and outdoor pursuits. Mrs Bennett enjoys crocheting and reading.
They celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary with family and friends at Hillmorton Manor.
They will be donating around £200 to the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance to mark the occasion.
Speaking about the success of their marriage, Mr Bennett said: “It’s all about give and take.”
