A Home Office pathologist will conduct the post mortem

A man who police suspected had been involved in a theft has died after he was apprehended last night.

Officers in Warwickshire identified a man they suspected of being involved in the theft of metal in the Pennington Mews area of Rugby.

The man ran from the officers but was apprehended.

During his apprehension he collapsed.

CPR was administered at the scene by officers who called an ambulance.

The ambulance took him to University Hospital Coventry where he was pronounced dead at 20.17.

A spokesperson for Warwickshire Police said: “We expect formal identification of the deceased to take place following a post mortem on Tuesday 22 July.

“Given the circumstances surrounding this incident, the post mortem will be conducted by a Home Office Pathologist and Warwickshire Police has referred the case to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

No additional information will be released at this point.”
