A horse was rescued by firefighters after getting its leg stuck between railings four feet high in Leek Wootton.

Warwickshire Fire Control were called to reports of the horse stuck along Hill Wootton Road, railings just after 7am on January 1.

A fire engine from Leamington and the Large Animal Rescue Unit from Rugby cut the animal free from the railings of her stable bars in what her owner, Sue said may have saved her life.

Crews have since been thanked by the owners of the horse who said she was recovering well from the ordeal with only a swollen fetlock to show from in the event.

A crew spokesperson said: “We have received a lovely note of thanks from Sue, the owner of a horse who got her leg trapped in the stable bars on New Year’s Day.

“Crews found the horse with her leg trapped four feet in the air in the stable bars.

“With the help of a vet, the horse was gently released to try and minimise the damage to the horse’s leg.

Sue said: “Without your amazing help I am not sure she would still be with us. Thank you once again and keep up the good work.”
