A no smoking roadshow will take place at Asda in Rugby today (Wedesnday).
Every year thousands of people choose national No Smoking Day to stop smoking.
This year it takes place today (Wednesday) and the theme is ‘V for Victory – in the battle against cigarettes we can help you win’.
To raise awareness of the day, and encourage local people to think about quitting, Warwickshire’s Stop Smoking Service has organised a number of drop-in information events around the county.
Sue Weston, Smokefree Warwickshire Co-ordinator said: “No Smoking Day is an opportunity for smokers who want to quit to do so in the company of millions of others across the country.
“It can be very hard to break the habit so knowing many others are trying too can be reassuring to a lot of people. We hope the roadshows will help to reinforce this group approach and help raise awareness of the benefits of quitting.”
Rugby’s roadshow will be held today at Asda in Chapel Street from 10am to 1pm.
Councillor Bob Stevens, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for health, added: “Smokers are four times more likely to give up with support so it important that people are aware of the Stop Smoking Service.
“Everyone has their own reasons for wanting to give up smoking but the important thing is that they get the help and advice and that is why we are here.”
