Plans to build 131 new homes on the former Warwickshire College site in Lower Hillmorton Road were approved last night (Wednesday).

Councillors had expressed fears that the proposal will lead to problems with parking, safety and neighbouring roads being used as ‘rat-runs’.

There are also criticisms that the application - lodged by the college itself - is too focused on cars, with little consideration given to public transport.

But officials support the proposal, which was discussed by Rugby Borough Council’s planning committee last night (Wednesday) where councillor’s approved the plans.

The application is currently in ‘outline’ form. If approved, the developers will apply for permission for matters such as design and landscaping at a later date.

The college, which has moved to land off Leicester Road, has already been demolished to make way for the development.
