Warwickshire Police received two reports of bogus calls today, Monday, where scammers called the residents pretending to be police officers from London.

They claimed that the victims’ cards had been used fraudulently and tried to obtain their bank details in a ploy to get money off them.

On both occasions, the individuals targeted by the scammers suspected something suspicious and immediately contacted police.

The police have since issued a statement warning Rugby residents never to give their bank details over the phone.

If you receive a call like the above, or are suspicious, immediately hang up the phone and dial 1471 to try and take down the number before reporting it to police on 101.

People with elderly relatives or neighbours are also being urged to talk to them and make them aware of the advice.
