An extraordinary meeting of Rugby Borough Council is to consider applying to the Local Government Boundary Commission (LGBC) for a possible reduction in the number of councillors.
The council will consider the issue at a meeting to be held on Monday, after it was first raised in the budget resolution passed by councillors on February 25.
There are currently 42 councillors on Rugby Borough Council, and the meeting will consider whether or not to explore reducing that number to around 30-35.
If approved, the council will need to be able to demonstrate to the LGBC that the reduced number of councillors will still be able to represent their electors and be able to carry out their duties effectively and efficiently.
If the LGBC accept a request for a review, councillors will need to consider the application in more detail at a later date before any changes come into effect.
