Hindus in Rugby recently celebrated the festival of Raksha Bandhan.

Traditionally it is celebrated by sisters tying a Rakhi (sacred thread) around the wrist of their brothers and in turn the brothers promise to help protect and help their sisters.

This tradition has been extended and this year marked the 30th anniversary since the Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (Rugby branch) has been tying a Rakhi to the Mayor of Rugby, who represents the people of Rugby. Rugby Mayor Cllr Ramesh Srivastava was tied a Rakhi by Raxaben Mistry before he tied one to the other guests.
